Ideas for Cleaning Window Blinds

Window blinds provide home interiors with beautiful appeal. Moreover, they also have functional uses such as providing privacy from the public or controlling the natural light that enters the home. However, just like any item in homes, blinds have to be kept clean and beautiful, too.

One of the ideal ways to clean window blinds is by vacuuming them regularly. Use a vacuum with a brush head attachment for this matter to remove loose dirt sticking on the surfaces and corners of the blinds. Vacuuming should be done as a regular maintenance habit to keep blinds clean.

When the window blinds are heavily soiled, it is necessary to wash them with soapy water. However, bathing blinds are not advisable when they are made of wood or when they have decorative tapes on them. Also, before bathing the blinds, you need to vacuum the surfaces and corners first. Remove the blinds off the window frames and dip them in water that has a few drops of mild soap solution. For a more hassle-free chore, you can use a bath tub to fit your blinds into the soaking mixture. Afterwards, you must carefully dry the blinds with a towel to get rid of any streak marks on them.

Whether you have vacuumed or washed the blinds, you must also do spot cleaning on certain portions as there might be dirt building up or finger marks remaining in certain areas. Wipe these areas with a damp sponge or cloth gently.

In most cases, especially for white-coloured blinds, dinginess can pose a problem. Washing the blinds can help remove the dinginess; that is, if such blinds are made of materials that are ideal for soaking in water. However, if washing does not effectively remove the dingy areas, you can consider using white shoe polish as a temporary remedy.
