When starting a dance club or creating your own dance studio, installing the appropriate kind of flooring and knowing how to take care of it will surely enhance your dancing experience and increase the enjoyment of your patrons. Maple wood or hard oak are highly recommended for dance floors. After the wood panels have been mounted, they should be polished by a fine sander and finished with a protective coating. Just be careful not to apply too much coating as this might make the floor very slippery.
A dance floor must be cleaned at least twice daily to help maintain its shine. Use a microfiber mop to get rid of dirt, dust, and debris. Moisture can also easily penetrate into the cracks and gaps of the floor. This could cause serious damage to the hardwood. That is why liquid spills must be immediately wiped with a dry cloth. This does not mean, however, that you could never use water to remove grime and dirt from the floor. You may use water as a cleaning agent, but do it only once a week and you should only use the water to slightly dampen the cleaning cloth.
When using cleaning solutions, read the ingredients carefully. Do not use formulas that contain detergents or other harsh chemicals. This will strip off the lustre of your dance floor and turn it into a dull and heavy texture. To be safe, buy only a spray-on hardwood cleaner to remove stains. Finally, your hardwood floors should be refinished at least every six months in order to maintain their beautiful lustre.
