General Care and Maintenance Tips for Vinyl Flooring

Today, a lot of homeowners choose vinyl flooring over hardwood or stone materials for many obvious reasons. Most people choose vinyl sheets or floors because they are durable and long lasting, but do not cost as much as real wood or stone. Aside from that, vinyl can provide the same level of elegance as natural materials do. However, like any floor covering, vinyl needs regular maintenance to keep it looking new at all times. Here are some simple tips you can follow.

If the vinyl flooring has just been installed in your home, protect the seamed areas by not letting anyone walk on them. Keep the area at room temperature for at least two days after the vinyl was installed so the adhesives will set in properly. Do not place heavy objects like furniture items on it for at least five days, as this will cause the adhesive to compress, which will leave permanent marks. Lay plywood or other materials to disperse the weight of the objects across the flooring. Likewise, allow five days to go by before mopping the floors to make sure that the adhesives have settled.

For general maintenance of vinyl flooring, you need to vacuum it regularly with a cleaner that does not have a brush bar. You can check for cleaners that are recommended by the manufacturer to ensure that you use the right products and that it will stay clean and looking great for a long time. Furthermore, you need to wipe spills immediately with lukewarm water and clear ammonia or other recommended cleaning agents. If the lustre starts to fade, use polishing solutions that are recommended for such types of flooring to ensure you do not damage them. Moreover, never drag objects on your flooring, as it will leave unsightly marks.
